What is a cataract?
A cataract is clouding of the eye’s natural lens. It usually develops slowly, and many people first notice blurred or dull vision, glare from headlights, trouble driving at night, colours that look faded, or glasses that need changing more often. The only effective treatment is surgery: the cloudy lens is removed through a small incision (phacoemulsification) and replaced with a clear artificial intraocular lens (IOL).
Measurements before cataract surgery.
The right lens power depends on accurate measurements. Before surgery we use OA-2000 optical biometry to measure the length and curvature of your eye, along with corneal topography and tomography, astigmatism analysis, OCT retinal scans and an ocular surface check. These tests tell us which IOL power and which lens type suit your eye.
Choosing the right IOL for you.
There is no single “best” lens. We help you choose from:
- Monofocal IOL
- Sharp vision at one distance, usually far. Reading glasses are often still needed.
- Advanced monofocal IOL
- Adds useful intermediate vision, such as a dashboard or computer, with monofocal-quality clarity.
- Toric IOL
- Corrects corneal astigmatism during cataract surgery.
- EDOF IOL (extended depth of focus)
- A continuous range from distance to intermediate.

Is cataract surgery painful?
No. Numbing drops are used, and most people feel only light pressure. Mild grittiness or watering for a day or two is normal.
How long does cataract surgery take?
The operation itself takes minutes. With preparation and rest, most patients go home the same day.
Which IOL is best for me?
It depends on your eyes, how you use your vision and what you expect. Your evaluation decides this.
Can I stop wearing glasses after cataract surgery?
Many patients become much less dependent on glasses, especially with EDOF or trifocal lenses, though some still need them for certain tasks.
What is a toric IOL?
A lens that corrects corneal astigmatism at the same time as removing the cataract.
EDOF or trifocal: what is the difference?
EDOF gives a smooth distance-to-intermediate range. Trifocals add a dedicated near focus. Night halos and suitability differ between the two.
Are premium IOLs suitable for everyone?
No. Irregular corneas, surface disease or macular problems can make a monofocal lens the better choice.
Can a cataract come back?
The artificial lens cannot develop a cataract. The membrane behind it can become cloudy, which is cleared with a quick YAG laser procedure.
